Felpham Colts Athletic A v Preston Blades under 10's
After last weeks disappointment
against Highdown Saints in a game where we hit everything but lost to a freak free
kick we decided to regroup and start again. In only our second game of the season
we made a slow start with the blades dominating play, eventually we found the next
gear and started to get our foot on the ball and started to play some good football
with Zoe in the centre clearing all loose balls and passing back up to Callum, Zac
and Brad who were now working the ball well and making some lovely passing movement,
with the ball won in the middle and played out to Callum who had found some space
he then struck a lovely flighted ball into the top corner 1-0, we then gave a solid
first half performance with our new player Luca being very consistent in defence.
We knew at half time we would have to work hard to shut out a very good Blades team
who we knew would press for the equaliser, it started as we thought with them pressing
and challenging for everything, there was some top keeping, great defending from
Arthur and Oliver and some tough battles in midfield from Tom and Zac with them still
pushing and us trying to counter we were awarded a free kick out on the left, Callum
stepped up and again struck a lovely ball which unfortunately hit the crossbar and
rebounded out to a blades player whom played a lovely ball down the wing resulting
in a nice cross in which Jake our keeper came out to clear but unluckily the ball
hit the back of a players head and looped over him into the back of the net 1-1,
with only 3-4 minutes left the team gave their all to keep going which paid with
the ball won in the middle and some quick thinking a through ball was played onto
Zac who was against a defender and the keeper he stayed upright under pressure and
got past the defender with only the keeper to beat, he rounded the keeper and poked
the ball into the bottom corner 2-1, a great win in a true battle against a good
team with some great individual performances and immense team effort with a special
mention to Zoe and Tom who got injured but would not give up for the sake of the
team.
The man of the match went to Jake our keeper who played exceptionally well with
safe hands and great concentration a truly solid display.

Felpham Colts Athletic A v Highdown Saints
All I can say is what a game, this one was hard fought from the first whistle, it had everything real end to end stuff at times. This was always going to be a tough match for us, Highdown being the league leaders and a muddy wet pitch stopping us from passing the ball how we like to.
We dominated the first 10 minutes having some chances at goal coming from some great crosses from Sam and stopping Highdown from moving the ball around although slowly a little frustration set in as things were not happening how we like it, crosses stopping dead and passes hardly moving, this in turn allowed the opposition to feel their way in the game and with some great defending from Arthur and battles in the middle with Callum we thankfully entered half time 0-0.
A quick team talk of telling them to close down quicker and battle and go and give 100% we started the second half brightly and controlling the game within minutes we had won a corner which was lifted in and Zac being in the right place got a foot to it and 1-0, again we pushed hard and soon had another with the ball coming in Zoe got her head to it making it 2-0, we then took our foot of the pedal a little allowing Highdown to sneak one back and then another 2-2. Suddenly had that feeling we were going to have most of the possession and not get the result deserved, so a little encouragement from the side lines and some pure determination from the players we won a free kick outside of the box on the left, Callum stepped up and whipped in a great ball towards goal and another header this time off Zac saw the ball in the back of the net, with a nervy few minutes remaining we held it and the end result being 3-2, all I can say is well played all of you a great team effort working together and I am loving your never give up spirit.
GET IN and well done.

Rustington Otters Youth v Felpham Colts Athletic A
Felpham Colts Athletic A gained
another good 3 points today against a very good Rustington otters team, we always
knew we was going to have to work hard if we was going to get anything from this
game as we were short on players especially in the attacking options so from the
offset we had to set ourselves up differently and play people in postions they were
not used to. From the 1st whistle Felpham were attacking the ball and pressuring
for possession when the ball was won in the midfield and knocked straight towards
goal, where Callum had come infront of the goalkeeper and with a cheeky little back
flick the ball was in the net giving us the lead. For the first 15 minutes we were
dominating the game with some lovely passing movements between Callum, Zoe and Sam
and some near misses, Tom who was playing a defensive midfield role taking him out
of his comfort zone in the heart of defence was clearing all the loose balls in the
middle and playing it down to our attacking players was calming the game and keeping
it all in control, in the last 5 minutes of the 1st half Rustington started to gain
momentum and started to test our resolve, with some great defending and also some
panicky we managed to get into the break 1 nil to the good. The 2nd half started
with both teams trying to gain control of the game with both sides having some shots
and playing good football, Rustington did start to get the edge on us and a few nerves
came and some not so good clearing the ball at the back but thankfully Jake held
his nerve and dived on a few loose balls keeping us in the lead and with a clearance
which found Sam in the middle who had space and time ran with the ball and looked
up saw the goal and hit the sweetist of shots into the top corner from well outside
the box simply one of the best goals I have seen all season and one he should cherish,
excellent. We had about 10 minutes remaining at that point although the otters were
not going to give up without a fight they kept pressing and eventually got a deserved
goal with Felpham being caught out by a long throw leading to a very nervous final
few minutes but with Luca, Oliver and Arthur staying calm we held on and got the
result we went for. Final score 1-2, this was one of the best battles I have watched
all season with our players showing true grit and determination and a team full of
character giving the team there 4th win on the trot. Rustington were a great team
to play and a lovely group of players and a real test for us albeit well done Felpham,
superb.
